Tradition

For nearly fifty years Wheeling Jesuit University has positively impacted the lives of students, faculty, staff, and the community.  WJU shares with its students the Jesuit tradition of developing men and women who think clearly and act wisely with courage, competence and compassion.

The Wheeling College that early graduates remember continues to build on those same traditions--educating men and women for others, educating for leadership and educating for life.  The principles that shaped the lives of the first graduating class are still at work for students who attend Wheeling Jesuit today.

Part of the education process is knowing that learning occurs during all stages of life.   In the first stage of life, when we were young, we learned from others and by doing. When we entered life's second stage as young adults many of us married and found ourselves educating our children and learning along the way.

With the nest empty and the third stage of life beginning, still more learning takes place as we cope to keep pace in a world of constant change - records and tapes are out and CD's and DVD's replace them. We are seeing that at age 65 many people will, on average, have another 20 years of learning and life to enjoy.  This is also a time when we hear more and more about estates, trusts, wills, and other avenues to plan a secure financial future for our loved ones and ourselves.

As you think about this third stage of your life we thought you might appreciate some information as a point of reference. One might say it is another example of your Jesuit university educating men and women for life.
