Why Wheeling Jesuit?
While conducting my college search I knew that I wanted a university or college with rigorous standards and a well established education program. Wheeling Jesuit University fulfills these requirements. I also knew that I wanted a small university with the opportunity for a lot of individualized attention and that had a competitive women’s soccer program. After meeting with faculty in the Teacher Prep program, participating in a campus tour, and talking with the women’s soccer coach, I was excited with the realization that my college search was complete. I am currently a rising junior in the Teacher Prep program at Wheeling Jesuit University - majoring in elementary education. Thus far, I have had numerous positive experiences student teaching in the Ohio County schools of West Virginia. Last semester I had the opportunity to teach Junior Achievement (JA) lessons to fourth graders at Elm Grove Elementary. I conducted five lessons based on regions and resources with one of my peers. This allowed me to develop my instructional planning skills and relationships in the community. I believe that a prospective teacher should be placed into the classroom early, and Wheeling Jesuit University’s Teacher Prep program provides students with that opportunity. Faculty and staff have provided me with guidance and support to facilitate my growth as a student and professional educator. I am thoroughly happy that I chose Wheeling Jesuit University as the institution to further my education!
