The Department has four full-time faculty and 4 adjuncts. Two of the faculty hired since 1996 have considerable research experience in academia and industry and have established undergraduate research programs. The department has received awards totaling over $400,000 for purchasing state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation (NMR, GC/MS, AAS & FTIR, TGA-FTIR) and for supporting undergraduate research projects.

In addition to the basic chemistry courses (organic, physical, analytical and inorganic), courses in biochemistry and environmental chemistry are offered. A Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, and a Bachelor of Arts degree are available.

In the period 1995 - 2001, the chemistry department awarded 43 degrees or an average of 6 per year. Half of the graduates entered graduate schools, while the remainder obtained industrial employment or entered the teaching profession. In the past five years, students entering graduate schools have majored in chemistry, chemical engineering, forensic science, polymer chemistry, and chemical education and are attending such schools as Northwestern, University of Kentucky, University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Clemson University, University of Indiana, Colorado School of Mines, Bowling Green University and Virginia Commonwealth University.
